Yvonne S. Merck

Yvonne Merck was born on September 30, 1931 in Greenville, SC to Nellie Irene Simpson Smith and Aubrey Couch Smith. Yvonne passed away July 21, 2023 at Concord Place in Concord, NC.  Yvonne was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Wilton “Roddy” Merck.

Yvonne attended school in Greenville and lived there until she married.  As newlyweds, Yvonne’s husband enlisted in the USAF and the adventures began.  The Air Force provided a chance for the family to see the world.  The family relocated multiple times, and Yvonne made houses into homes for her family coast to coast and abroad during her husband’s service.  Fond memories of Yvonne’s were trips to the Greek Isles and Switzerland.  In 1972, the family settled in Charlotte. 

Yvonne loved reading mystery novels, watching old movies and spending time with family.  She enjoyed working as a school librarian during her children’s school years, and she retired from Belk Stores Services after working there many year.

Survivors include Yvonne’s son, Steve Merck and his wife, Janice of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; daughters Donna Merck of Charlotte and Tammy Merck of Huntersville; granddaughter, Jessica D’Ambrosio of Charlotte; grandsons Brian Merck and wife Stephanie of Katy, TX and Wesley Merck of Houston, TX; and great-grandsons, Daniel D’Ambrosio of Charlotte and Elijah Merck, of Katy.

The family plans to have a private ceremony.
