William "Bill" Charles Higbie, 75, of Denver, NC passed away at his home July 4, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born October 6, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Burt Higbie and Evelyn Porter Higbie. He was a veteran US Air Force Pilot, retired banker and owner of UDS Computer Sales and Service. He endured a courageous sixteen month battle with lung cancer never complaining and always remaining a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His family and friends will remember Bill as fun-loving, sensible, intelligent man who always had a humorous approach to life. His life was filled with a love of boating, gardening, golf, reading, sports, travel in his motor home, visiting his beach house, his family, his church and morning coffee and muffins with great friends. Proud of his years in the US Air Force, Bill had a life-long interest in flying and airplanes. He will be missed but always remembered. A celebration of his life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at The Episcopal Church of St. Peter-by-the Lake , Denver, NC with Rev. Dr. Ron Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Garden. Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pat; daughters, Linda Petry (Jeff) of Huntersville, NC; Laura Nealy of Matthews, NC; Leslie Huegerich (Karl) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Lisa Taylor (Luke) of Denver, NC and his sisters, Joyce Hildebran (George) of Valdese, NC and Joan Lyerly (Charles) of Cornelius, NC; grandchildren, Andrew, Anna and Abigail Petry; Philip, Michael and Christina Nealy; Brandon and Patrick Huegerich; Mason and Katherine Taylor and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Stoffel, Dr. Timothy Kuo and the doctors and nurses who took care of Bill. Special thanks to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County.
