Mr. Wheeler Durett Howard, Jr. "Bud", 81, of Davidson, NC died Friday, April 13, 2012. He was born May 22, 1930 in Lincoln County, son of the late Wheeler D. Howard and Neffie McConnell Howard. For many years he worked for Johnson Motor Lines and retired from Continental Tire. He also delivered papers for the Charlotte Observer and worked at the Davidson College laundry. He enjoyed the mountains and loved to go camping. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the 6th Infantry Regiment in Berlin, Germany from 1952 - 1954. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Betty Lee Henderson Howard, two grandchildren, Matthew Thornton and Bonnie Mahan; and his brother Charles Howard. He is survived by his son, Robert J. Howard of Mooresville, NC; daughter Mrs. Teresa H. Thornton and husband Joe of Denver; grandchildren, Mark A. Thornton of Cornelius, Heather Deslauriers and husband Jesse of Mooresville; and Megan Brennan and husband Shaun of Mooresville; three great-grandchildren: Bonnie, Gavin and Matthew and one sister, Violet Overcash. Funeral services will be on Monday April 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home Chapel in Huntersville, NC with Rev. Rick Felts officiating. Interment will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday April 15, 2012 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.
