Virginia Frances Leger died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the age of 91 in Huntersville, NC. Virginia grew up in a loving home full of Aunts and Uncles in Chelsea,MA. After graduating in 1941 from Lesley Teaching College she began teaching 40 second and third graders in Belchertown MA. On June 29, 1946 she married Edward E. Leger. Together they made their home in Watertown, MA,then Waltham, MA until moving to NJ in 1966. She taught in the Waltham, MA public schools before moving to NJ where she continued to teach fifth grade students for the Township of Roxbury, NJ. She retired in 1978. Virginia was a dedicated teacher who inspired many young children in there lives and teachers in their careers. She was an active member of the College Club in Succasunna, NJ. She loved to play bridge and pinochle, and was an avid reader, but especially loved to dance with her husband, Ed. She moved to Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home, Huntersville, NC where she has resided for the past 10 years. Virginia volunteered for many different organizations throughout her life. She will be missed by her family, friends, teaching colleagues, and the family she has made at Huntersville Oaks. Those who knew her said she had a good attitude that inspired others to keep going. She aimed to engage them in conversation to help keep up their spirits. She loved to joke and tease with her friends and the staff at Huntersville Oaks. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Evelyn Brown Parr and husband Edward E. Leger. She is survived by her son; Ted Leger of Cloverdale, SC, daughters; Susan Cairns of Woodland, CA, and Denise Andico of Greenacres, FL, granddaughters; Kimberly Sanabria of Succasunna, NJ, Danielle Gamble of Gainsville, FL, Crissi Kessler of Woodland CA, and five great-grandchildren; McKenna, Peyton, Avery, Sebastian and newborn Briana. A celebration of her life will be held at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home 16901 Old Statesville Rd. Huntersville. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Southern Rd. Charlotte, NC 28213, or St. Marks Catholic Church, 14740 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
