Vernon E. Whitlow was born in Charlotte NC on November 12, 1944. He passed away on January 12, 2019 at 74 years old. Vernon was living in North Myrtle Beach at the time of his death and was under the care of Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach SC.
Vernon was a Mason, Shriner and a proud Army Veteran. He resided in Belmont NC for 20 years with his beloved wife of 53 years, Cheryl Nalley Whitlow. Vernon was employed and retired from Little Italy Corporation. He worked directly for Mr. Andreas Bechtler managing his personal property prior to retirement. Vernon was a man of strong faith, often seen sitting on his porch with his wife Cheryl, reading his bible while ‘saying his howdies’ to neighbors and friends. Vernon was a humble man, not just smart but also wise. He was well known for his ‘southern country boy sense of humor.’ Vernon had a beautiful, infectious laugh and welcoming friendly personality. He enjoyed working with his hands, taking pride in his ability to build and repair things. Vernon Whitlow was selfless, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by son Ken Whitlow and wife Kathy; son Rob Whitlow and wife Cassandra and grandson Justus Whitlow. He is preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Nalley Whitlow; parents Clarence and Willie Phillips Whitlow; sister Marie Whitlow Conder, Kaufman. Vernon is survived by his sister Jean Whitlow McCraw and husband Neal; Patsy Whitlow Cokernak and husband Bruce; sister-in-law Pam Meadows and husband Ronnie; brother-in-law Dean Frazier and wife Patti. He has countless nieces and nephews who loved and adored him.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Rd., Huntersville, NC, 704-892-9669. Family will receive friends at 2pm followed by a ‘Celebration of Life’ at 3pm.
