Harold Vernon Robinette entered his eternal home surrounded by his family on February 6, 2016.
Vernon was the son of the late William Mack and Jennie Robinette. Upon his mother’s death, which was a few months after his birth, he and his siblings joined the family of his Aunt Minnie and Uncle Will Reid. Vernon’s siblings were Muriel Robinette Zeta Mae Robinette Petrea, Eudell Reid Wilson, Novem Reid Darnell, Ralph Reid, Robert Reid, Harold Reid and Hollis Reid.
As a young teenager, Vernon worked for Davidson Ice and Fuel. Upon graduation from Cornelius High School he joined the Navy in 1945. Vernon’s ship and crew members were on their way to Pearl Harbor when it was announced that the War had ended.
Upon his return from the Navy he worked for several oil companies in the sales and marketing departments and then retired from Tenneco Oil Company in 1985.
In 1947 at nineteen years of age he married Frankie Wilhelm who was only seventeen years of age. Vernon and Frankie were married for 68 years and had three children together. Surviving children are LaDonna Robinette Hoying and Robin Robinette. Joseph Lee Robinette, their infant son who was premature died at birth. Vernon and Frankie enjoyed their growing family which also includes their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vernon was an original member of the Cornelius Fire Department and also a lifelong member of Cornelius Presbyterian Church. In earlier years, Vernon served as a member of the choir as well as several terms in the role of Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session. Vernon’s love for God, his family, his Church and community were obvious to all as he was a true and faithful servant.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Frankie Robinette; daughter, LaDonna Robinette Hoying; son, Robin Robinette; grandchildren, Shaun Williams, Brandon Williams, Stacey Robinette Burge, Heath Lipford, Haleigh Lipford: great-grandchildren, Madison Burge, Ty Burge, Lanah Williams, Mia Williams, Carter Williams, Luke Lipford, and Noah Lipford.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Cornelius Presbyterian Church, 21209 Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC. Family will receive friends at 1:00 PM until the time of the Service. Vernon will be laid to rest following the Service at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Autumn Care and Hospice of Lake Norman. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Lake Norman or Cornelius Presbyterian Church.
