Mr. Thomas M. Surratt, 83, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Hospital on November 4, 2012. He was born August 17, 1929 in Salisbury, NC to the late Thomas Mitchell Surratt and Florence Fesperman Winecoff Surratt. He was preceded in death by sisters, Fleta W. Cloyd, Hazel W. Eller Bowles and Rachel W. Bolt. Mr. Surratt graduated from Boyden High School, Salisbury in 1947. He served in the US Army 179th Army Band at Camp Carson, Co. Following his military service, Mr. Surratt began a career in healthcare in Siler City, NC. His career took him to various hospitals throughout NC, where he served as Assistant Administrator, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Executive Officer. He served on the administrative team at Presbyterian Healthcare from 1982 until December 1993. In 1994, Mr. Surratt and his son, Doug Surratt began a physician management company, Baybridge Management, where he served as Chief Executive Officer until retirement. During his life, Mr. Surratt was very active in the Methodist Church, holding many church offices and always singing in the choir. Always enjoying music, Mr. Surratt played the trumpet in bands, orchestras and at his church. Survivors include his three sons, Tim Surratt of Henderson, NC, Flynn Surratt of Edenton, NC and Doug Surratt and his wife, Edie of Davidson, NC; three daughters, Janice Surratt Sandberg and husband, Gary of Tacoma, WA, Kay Surratt Stokes and husband Charley of Puyallup, WA and Susan Surratt Smith and husband Carey of Matthews, NC; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Surratt, Christina Logue, Michael Logue, Zachary Stokes, Marybeth Surratt, Caroline Surratt, Logan Smith, Lilly Smith, Nathan Surratt and Daniel Surratt; and one sister Martha W. Howard Eaton of Del Rio, TX. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 9 at 3pm, at Davidson United Methodist Church, Davidson, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Davidson United Methodist Church, PO Box 718, Davidson NC 28036, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
