Thomas "Poppy" Hunter Girvan, Jr.

Thomas "Poppy" Hunter Girvan, Jr, 83, of Cornelius, NC passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday August 20, 2013. Thomas was born June 14, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Thomas Hunter Girvan, Sr. of Scotland and Gladys Mae Limmer Girvan . Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine during WW II, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a Sergeant 1st Class in the Korean Conflict. Tom was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Masons and the American Legion. He enjoyed shark fishing, golfing, hunting and traveling with his wife and family. Tom retired as a supervising manager with Con Edison in Brooklyn, NY where he worked for 40 years. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Thomas Hunter Girvan, III. Poppy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 58 years, Paula Irene Sande Girvan, daughter Gayle Irene Palamara and two grandchildren, Joseph Palamara, Jr and Kylie Hunter Palamara, all of Cornelius, NC. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
