Thomas Lewis Brotherton

Mr. Thomas Lewis Brotherton, 88 of Cornelius, NC died Thursday March 18, 2011 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Born April 1, 1922 in Lincolnton, NC he was the son of the late Francis Brotherton and Ade Bell Howard Brotherton. Tommy was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy at the rank of Coxswain. He was employed with Mecklenburg County as a building inspector, ran the Housing Department and was Assistant Building Chief at his retirement. For over 40 years he was on the Board of Directors of Energy United, loved to travel and square dance. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, was a Mason, Shriner and Legionnaire. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 22 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Berryhill officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center. He is survived by his children, Shelia Kerr, Thomas L. Butch Brotherton, Jr. (Mimi), Stephen S. Brotherton (Jane), and Pamela B. Bumgarner (Billy), nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and sister, Dot Berryhill (Raymond). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Betty Sherrill Brotherton in 2008 and four sisters.
