Theresa Kaufmann Salchak, age 95, of Huntersville, NC. passed away August 27, 2013. She was born on May 4th, 1918 in Mierskappel, Switzerland and came to the United States with her family at age 4. She grew up in North East, Pa., the oldest of 7. She completed nurses training at St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, Pa. She served proudly as an Army nurse during WW II from 1942 to 1946, serving in field hospitals in North Africa, Italy and France. After the war, she completed her education at Villa Maria College in Erie, Pa. and worked in several hospitals in northeastern Pennsylvania. After retiring she and her husband moved to Florida and then she moved to Charlotte in 2003 to be closer to her family. She was a loving friend, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother (Grammy) and great-grandmother. Many were touched by her kindness, patience, sense of humor and sweet nature. Her motto the last few years was "You have to make the most of what you have left." She is survived by daughter, Eleanor and husband Joe Myers, of Charlotte, grandson Joe and wife Antonia of Charlotte, grandson Scott of London, England, granddaughter Lisa of Charlotte and great grandson Diego Joseph also of Charlotte. She is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth of Burr Ridge, Ill., Helen of Erie, Pa., and brother Joe of Erie, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, brother Leonard and sisters Ann and Rita. A mass to celebrate her life will be held on September 7th, 11am, at St. Mark Church on Stumptown Road in Huntersville, NC. Internment in Erie, Pa. will follow at a later date.
