Mr. Stephens "Steve" Kirby Lawson, 59, of Davidson, NC died Sunday January 15, 2012 at his residence. Born August 28, 1952 in Atlanta, GA he was a son of Doris Broom Lawson of Davidson and the late Winston Stephens Lawson. Mr. Lawson was employed with Duke Energy as a vehicle maintenance specialist for 31 years. A member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church North Campus, Steve was a talented woodworker and avid reader. He was a member of RBA, IRA, and 50/50 Rimfire with his cousin Gary Mitchell of Cordele, GA, winning many championship awards in competitive shooting. Steve was a US Navy Veteran serving in the Seabees for 4 years. Steve received a commendation from his Commanding Officer for identifying a mechanical design weakness and safety hazard, preventing excessive equipment downtime and wasted man hours, and potentially saving lives. A celebration of his life will be conducted 12:00 noon Friday January 20 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with Rev. Trent Peacock officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 until 12:00 at the funeral home. In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 32 years, Carolyn; daughter, Ashley; brother, Wayne all of Davidson; sister, Trish (Gerald) Ray of Mooresville; nephew, Brian Clayton; niece, Kendall Clayton and numerous extended family members. In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Edward & Annie Belle Lawson, Carl & Thelma Broom, and three cousins, Doug Smith, Jeff Broom and Nancy Mitchell.
