Stanton Leroy Burgess, Jr.

October 5, 1933 – August 15, 2022

Born to Stanton L .Burgess, Sr and Josephine E Burgess, Lee came into the world as a 7 month - 3 lb 2 oz preemie in Boston, MA with a sister, Elizabeth, waiting for him at home.

After being graduated from Noble and Greenough, he entered the US Air Force and followed that enlistment with a business degree from Babson Institute.

Married to long-time family friend, Gail Scribner in 1958, they began their 64 year marriage in Niagara Falls, NY training for a sales position.

After a lengthy sales career with IBM, Xerox and Zenger-Miller, Lee put down his shingle and retired at age 59 and settled in Charlotte, NC.  His impeccable work ethic and ‘old school’ method of record keeping in his small Day-Timer (which he called his Bible) probably made him the last of a great generation.

Lee and Gail never knew a stranger as they moved and advanced from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and eventually North Carolina.  Along the way they produced Kenneth, Michael and LeeAnne who have now increased our family by 7 grands and 10 greats (with one in the oven).  Not to ignore furry babies, Lee sported an appropriate t-shirt claiming to be “The Dog-Father”.

Known by many nicknames, he was Birdy, Dad, Pop, Norm, Grampa, Mr. B, and of course Honey.

He was a champion of quick wit and never missed a beat which endeared us all.

Lee was an avid sports fan and took pride in his lawn and gardens.  As they settled into their new home in Charlotte, he sighed many times and said, “I’m glad there’s no yard work or snow”.  We remember him with love and admiration for his volunteerism and kindness to those in need.  He came into this world small but lived his “dash” strong and mighty.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  Community Home Care & Hospice (Donate Now) and Habitat for Humanity (Donate Now) would appreciate your loving donation in Lee’s memory.  The family will celebrate his life privately.
