Shannon Michael Swank, born on December 6, 1967, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024. He was a kind and loving soul who touched the lives of many throughout his journey.
Shannon devoted eight years of his life to working at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. He also contributed his efforts at Walmart in Hampton, VA, and more recently within the housekeeping department at Davis Hospital in Statesville, NC, until he retired due to medical issues. His dedication to his jobs reflected a strong work ethic, and he approached each day with an unwavering commitment.
A graduate of Poquoson High School, Shannon furthered his education at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL, and Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, VA. He embraced learning and personal growth throughout his life.
Shannon's character was defined by his compassion. A memory that reflects this was when Shannon didn't have much money for himself, but still treated two homeless individuals to a meal at a local fast food restaurant. This act of kindness epitomized his loving nature and commitment to supporting those less fortunate.
In his leisure time, Shannon found joy in music, particularly from iconic artists such as the Eagles, Don Henley, and Journey. He was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, often sharing in the camaraderie of watching games with friends and family. Shannon was also a member of the Yorktown, VA Presbyterian Church and attended the Fairview Baptist Church of Statesville.
Shannon is survived by his loving parents, Jerry and Kathryn Swank, of Mooresville, NC; his sister, Shayla Nicole (Swank) White, of Mooresville, NC; his nephew, Derek Michael White, of Raleigh, NC; and his niece, Morgan Leigh White, of Charlotte, NC. His family will forever cherish the memories they shared and the impact he made on their lives.
As we remember Shannon Michael Swank, let us carry forward the spirit of kindness he embodied and celebrate a life lived with love for both family and strangers alike.
A very special thanks to Gwen Coley, whom Shannon considered his second mother while living in Statesville. Also, thank you to his Speech Therapist, Katie, of Lakeside Rehabilitation Center for all the time, encouragement, and love while working with Shannon.
