Sammie Hewitte Collins

Mrs. Sammie Louise Hewitte Collins, 82, a resident of Churchill Senior Living Center in Mooresville, NC formerly of the Long Creek Community in Huntersville, NC passed away Thursday January 2, 2014. Born April 10, 1931 in Richmond County she was a daughter of the late Samuel G. and Mary Isabelle Sanford Hewitte. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, Chairperson of the worship committee and also worked on many other committees. She sang proudly for Oak Grove United Methodist Church Choir for many years until declining health. Prior to retirement she was a Quality Control Engineer and Supervisor at General Time/Talley Industries and a founding member and past president of the Long Creek Opti-Mrs. Club. Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 4, 2014 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Charlotte, NC. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Collins is survived by her son Mickey Collins and wife, Brenda, the loves of her life, granddaughter, Katie Collins and grandson, Austin Collins all of Mooresville; sister, Annie Rose Smith of Loris, SC; brothers, Jerry Hewitte of Rockledge , FL and Ronald Hewitte of Conway, SC In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Collins, Jr. (Bob) and son, Robert B. Collins, III (Robbie), 4 sisters and 1 brother. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 6440 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, 28269 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
