Roy Lee Sweeney, of Concord, NC, passed away July 26, 2014 at the age of 64. Roy's amazing courage, desire, mental and emotional strength during his eight month battle with pancreatic cancer was inspirational. He was born on February 13, 1950 in Roanoke, VA to Roy J. Sweeney and the late Edith Chewning Sweeney. Roy was a graduate of Lynchburg College and served in the US Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard he met his first wife, Maureen Hart, who preceded him in death in 1993. Roy's entire career was in the air pollution control industry where he was highly respected for his knowledge. It was through the course of his work that he met and fell in love with his wife and life partner, Sandra Hayworth Albertson. In 2005 Roy joined Camfil Farr and was serving the Southeast Regional Sales Manager at his death. Roy enjoyed learning, reading, fly fishing, hunting, and most of all, time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grand-father. Roy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Sandra; sons, Patrick Sweeney and wife Amanda, Matthew Sweeney and wife Jennifer, Randy Albertson and wife Felecia, Scott Albertson and wife Lawana; daughter Susan O'Daniel and husband J. P.; father, Roy J. Sweeney; brother Charlie Sweeney and wife Missy; sister, Linda Atkinson and husband Kyle; grandchildren, Tatiana, Joseph, Bailey, Matthew, Chase, Carson, Logan, Gavin, Will, Jenna, Madison, and Matheson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, at the home of Charlie and Missy Sweeney in Moneta, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made in support of pancreatic cancer research. Donations can be made to Lustgarten Foundation at Lustgarten.org or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
