Roy Hayes Cox, 84, of Charlotte, NC died Thursday January 5, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Roy was born July 11, 1927 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Freddie Hayes Cox and Sarah Park Cox. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a life long member of Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church in which he had served as deacon, elder and sunday school superintendent. He was the co-owner of Bellhaven Auto Sales. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Ida Cooper and his grandson Matthew Alan Cox. Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Gladys Williams Cox; his three sons, Roy Hayes Cox, Jr.(Geni), Steven L. Cox(Sheila), and Freddie Boyd Cox(Maria); six grandsons, one grandaughter and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:00pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home 16901 Old Statesville Rd. Huntersville, NC. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:00am at Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. TJ Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church 3413 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
