Mrs. Rosmarie Monahan, 92, of Davidson, NC died peacefully on February 4, 2013. She was born June 27, 1920, grew up in Austria and went to the University of Vienna where she studied Chemistry and Physics. She met her husband, John, who was in the U.S. Army, at the Opera of Vienna October 1945. She was an English interpreter for UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation) in Salzburg before marrying John in Vienna in November 1946. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in November 2012. Coming to the United States in 1947, she worked as a research chemist for Merck in Rahway, New Jersey and later for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1960 the couple moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. Her hobbies were music, theatre, skiing and hiking. For twenty five years she was part of the Mint Museum Golden Circle Theatre. She also obedience-trained and showed her German Shepherd dogs. She taught swimming and diving to many of her friends' and neighbors' children at their pool. She competed and won Gold Medals in Senior Olympic Games swimming for many years. Her volunteer activities over the years were many and varied including chairing the Motor Services Volunteer of the Red Cross. Rosmarie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John and several nieces and nephews A Mass of Christian Buri al will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at Saint Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC.
