Rosemary Wyatt

February 9, 1927 — June 5, 2017

Rosemary Barbara Wyatt was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 9, 1927. She passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017. She attended St. Rita Catholic School in Chicago and DePaul University, going to classes at night and working as a counter waitress at Walgreens.

After receiving her college degree, she was accepted into DePaul Law School. But while working as a legal secretary in the patent department at Universal Oil Products, she met her husband, James Frank Wyatt, Jr. They were married on December 1, 1951 in a snow storm in Chicago, flew to Alabama the next day for the wedding ceremony of Embry and Sue Wyatt, and spent their honeymoon at Sea Island, Georgia.

Mrs. Wyatt began raising her family in Barrington, Illinois. She had a daughter, Martha Lee Wyatt (now Beckington) and a son, James F. Wyatt, III. Mrs. Wyatt was devoted to her husband, family and community. While raising her children, she became the first female Treasurer and Vestry Member at St. Michael’s Church; was the President of the PTA; chaired and ran numerous political campaigns for local, state and national candidates; and eventually started her own tax business, F&R Tax.

She lived the majority of her life in Barrington, Illinois, moving to Davidson, North Carolina in 2009.

Mrs. Wyatt was pre-deceased by her parents, Ben and Martha Slone, her sister (Audrey Freres) and her brother (Anthony Slone). Mrs. Wyatt is survived by her children, Martha Lee Beckington and James F. Wyatt, III, and her five grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and is much loved by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Vincent, Alabama. Memorial donations can be sent to the Calvary Baptist Church.
