Rosemary J. "Roe" Albrecht of Huntersville NC passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 0345 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte NC due to heart and stroke complications. She was born in New Brunswick, NJ on January 10, 1936 and was preceded in death by her parents, John T. Gurgul and her mother Helen S. Gurgul. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Charles "Bud" Albrecht of Huntersville, NC, her brother Dennis Gurgul and his wife Carmella of Boston, MA. numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and Uncle Charlie. The wit and humor of "Auntie Mame" will be sadly missed. Roe was a graduate of Sayreville High School, Sayreville, NJ, was captain of the twirling team and very active with the theater and other clubs. She went on to be an outstanding secretary. She joined Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick after graduating high school and spent her entire career there. She retired in 1973 after marrying. After retiring she worked part time as a secretary for Hoechst Celanese, Johnson and Johnson, any many local real estate and attorney offices. Roe came from a musical family. Her father played drums and her mother played piano and sang. She studied piano and went on to become an excellent vocalist performing with many musical groups at various venues in the New Jersey / New York area. She possessed excellent stage presence and was admired by many for the stylist gowns she wore while performing. Her favorite song was "New York New York." She would always sing the lines regardless of where she was or who was present..."Start spreading the news"...... and.... "If I can make it here I'll make it anywhere, it's up to you New York, New York." Roe had a strong sense of compassion for her friends and family and went to great lengths to ensure the gathering of family member at holiday events. A favorite practice of hers for many years was to do a good deed for a friend or perfect stranger every Wednesday. Roe was noted for her hats, having one for each outfit she wore. She never missed an opportunity to wear a hat. She loved her log cabin at Cranberry Lake , NJ. She spent the summers at the lake, decorated the decks with many plants and flowers and enjoyed the daily cruises around the lake in their pontoon boat with her hats swaying in the breeze while waving to all. She had a passion for flowers and usually wore one in her hair whenever possible. Before her health failed, she volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, NC and performed in many musical shows at local churches. She was an excellent cook, charming hostess, had an superb sense of fashion and personal grooming and was a lot of fun to be with. Roe had a love for animals and will be missed dearly by her Chinese Pug, Bella. During recovery from her stroke, Bella was at her side and provided her with constant love, affection and comfort. Roe had a strong influence on many people and was fortunate to enjoy a large circle of friends. The family would like to thank the ER and CCU staff at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte for the excellent service and care given her during the past week. The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the Coughlin Funeral Home, 15 Academy Street, Califon, NJ. The funeral will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Califon United Methodist Church, 15 Raritan River Road, Califon, NJ. Burial will be at the Lower Valley Cemetery in Califon, NJ. A reception will follow at The Landmark, Rt. 513, Chester, NJ. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
