Robert “Bob” Warren Silman, age 85, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Brimfield, Illinois, passed away on March 29th, 2016. He was born on January 3, 1931, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Robert and Emma (Pasewark) Silman. He moved to Charlotte to be with his loving family after his wife, Anita, of more than 50 years passed away in January of 2015.
Bob was a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Texas. He received Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Biology and Chemical Engineering. He worked for the USDA Northern Regional Research Lab in Peoria, Illinois for 47 years as a researcher of enzymes, bacteria and solid state fermentation. He was a veteran of the US Army and a proud member of the Atomic Veteran’s Association. Bob and Anita opened their home to many at-risk foster kids, whom they loved very much. He was active in the Illinois Valley Kennel Club. Bob and Anita raised award winning Doberman Pinscher’s and authored chapters in a leading Doberman Pinscher book. Bob had a passion for gardening and a love for Amaryllis, plants and animals. He loved sharing stories about Anita, his family and was extremely proud of each of them. He enjoyed watching basketball, football and soccer games; had a passion for jazz and circus music, art and reading.
Bob is survived by his children Thomas (Suzzanne) Silman, Allison (Mike Neumann), Peter (Michelle) Silman, Edward (Alma) Silman; nine grandchildren; numerous foster kids; one niece; two nephews and many special loving friends.
Memorial Services are pending and will be held in Bob’s home town of Brimfield, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Heart Association, Children’s Home Association of Illinois or Illinois Valley Kennel Club of Peoria.
