Robert "Bob" Martin Jarrett, 91, beloved husband of Cecilia "Cel" Virginia (nee Witton), passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Asbury Care Center of Aldersgate, where the couple has resided since 2003. He was preceded in death by a twin son, Jeffrey, in 2007, and is survived by Cel, his wife of 69 years; the couple's other son, Michael, of Oconomowoc , WI ; and a daughter, Lori Jarrett, of Bothell , WA . Born August 25, 1920 to parents Reverend Charles N. Jarrett and Edna G. (nee Scott), Bob was the "hands of Christ" to many who knew him at Myers Park United Methodist Church, and previously Davidson United Methodist Church, where he served as a Stephen Minister. Over the years, as the family moved with his career, Bob volunteered on various boards, ministries, and church committees, was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, and a constant and confident student of the Bible. He especially enjoyed his Fellowship Class at MPUMC, and his friends there. Born in Beaver Creek , MD , Bob was one of three brothers, including the late Dr. Joe Jarrett and the late Scott Jarrett. He was raised in Washington , DC ; Charleston , WV ; and Bellaire , OH . He graduated from Bethany College , in Bethany , WV where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 94th Signal Battalion and the 89th Infantry Division in the European theatre. He was a proud member of Post 86 of the American Legion in Cornelius , NC . Bob was a career human resources manager, having worked through the years in a wide range of positions with PPG Industries, Westinghouse Electric, Wheeling Steel and Allis Chalmers, before starting his own personnel consulting firm. He later became a real estate broker associated with Century 21 and Hecht Realty. Bob was a long-standing volunteer for the Mecklenburg County Adult Care Home Advisory Committee, was the charter President of the Lake Norman Optimists Club, and was a member of the Huntersville-North Mecklenburg Civic Association. He was an accomplished pianist, a licensed pilot, and he enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing bridge and boating near his home at Lake Norman , which he aptly referred to as "heaven on earth." Bob's mild-mannered nature and pleasing ways will be missed by his many friends and a loving family that includes four grandchildren: Rebecca and Brian Jarrett, and Jesse and Max Hubbard; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the medical staff and caregivers at Asbury, and the wonderful representatives from Hospice of Charlotte - all who do God's work every day. A memorial service will held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park United Methodist Church , 1501 Queens Road , Charlotte , NC . Burial will be private.
