Robert Hartnett

Robert Joseph “Bob” Hartnett,   93, of Davidson, NC, died peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at The Pines at Davidson.
Mr. Hartnett was born on St. Patrick’s Day, 1923, the 8th child of the late Richard Joseph Hartnett and Frances Sonner Hartnett in Honesdale, PA.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and son, Robert.
Surviving are his five children; Richard Hartnett and wife, Donna,  Faith Nichols and husband, Perry,  Patricia Carter and husband, Kenneth,  Mari  Reimers and husband, Robert,  Michael Hartnett and wife, Andrea; fourteen grandchildren, RJ Hartnett, Katy Boruff, Maggie Hartnett, Fletcher Nichols, Hart Haymaker, Halley Blackwell, Hope Haymaker,  Hannah Haymaker, Mallory Reimers, Emma Reimers, Jessie Reimers,  Hunter Hartnett, Trevor Hartnett and Sarah Grace Hartnett; six great grandsons, Max Hartnett, Grant Hartnett, Eli Boruff, Grayson Hartnett, Hunter Nichols and Brooks Blackwell; sister in law, Mary Joseph; numerous nephews and nieces; and Bob’s true friend, Shirley Torstrick, will miss him dearly.
Mr. Hartnett graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Scranton, PA. He went on to graduate from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY as an officer. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Following the war he married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Griffith, at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Scranton, to whom he was married 61 years. He began his career in insurance in the basement of his mother in laws home on River Street in Scranton. His mother in law was particularly fond of him. This career led him and Pat across the United States. At retirement they settled in NC and finally at The Pines at Davidson.
He was an avid golfer and a daily Wall Street Journal reader. He loved good food, really good food and wine. His grandchildren called him Bobby and will never forget the man who sent them coffee cakes and checks.
Services will be private. Memorials may be sent to The Pines Resident Fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com.
