Rita Felipe Mostacero

April 28, 1944 — September 14, 2022

Rita Cherine Felipe Mostacero of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully September 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle against a rare form of cancer.

She was born in The Bronx on April 28, 1944 to the late Trenton Felipe and the late Edris Lunlu Felipe and was the oldest of three siblings. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Acevedo.

To say Rita was a social butterfly is an understatement. She never met a stranger. She made an incredible and lasting impression on everyone she met, some having only met her once. She would always encourage and support her family and friends no matter what challenges she was personally facing. She was nicknamed ‘The Oracle’ because she loved to offer advice and she changed the lives of everyone that met her. Rita was an excellent cook who derived joy from preparing meals like her famous ribs, and legendary fried mackerel for her family.

She had an intense and eclectic passion for music, from opera to oldies, and could recite every line of every song from any classic Hollywood musical. She was a free spirit who loved nature, her plants (especially tending to her avocado trees) and being in the sunshine. She adored owls and had a vast collection. Rita had an infectious smile, a wild laugh, crazy sense of humor, watched ‘Die Hard’ more times than anyone ever should, and was a notorious cheat at Scrabble. She thrived around people and felt the most alive when she was having fun and embarking on new adventures.

She is survived by her beloved daughters; Cydalia Acevedo and Robyn Mostacero-Licursi, son-in-law, Frank Licursi, brother, Michael Felipe, and numerous friends that adored her.

Cremation was performed in accordance with Rita's final wishes and a Celebration of Life will take place in New York on Saturday, October 22, 2022, time and location to be determined.

The Mostacero family is under the care of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Huntersville. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.kepnerfh.com.
