Richmond P. McGraw, Jr., "Pete", 96, passed away on April 6, 2023, in Stanley, NC. The son of Richmond P McGraw, Sr. and Beatrice Holthouser McGraw. Born in Mooresville, NC on October 13, 1926. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years Barbara Earnhardt McGraw; two sons John P. and Timothy A. McGraw; four brothers, James, Richard, Ronald and Jerry McGraw; and one sister Martha Stafford.
He is survived by his a wonderful son Gerald McGraw and a daughter in law Marcia McGraw; two sisters, Helen Helms (RB) and Janice McGraw Rose; one grandson Clint McGraw and three great grandsons, Kyle, Owen and Jesse.
In October of 1943 Pete joined the Navy and served in World War II. During his enlistment he was a part of the D-Day invasion in Normandy at Omaha Beach. After getting out of the service he graduated from Derita High in 1948 and then shortly after, married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Earnhardt, on April 23, 1949. He then worked at Ford Motor Company for a short time before starting his career of 34 years with Southern Bell. Pete served as commander of Post 321 in the mid 60's for a short time along with a Webelos Scout Leader.
Pete loved to tend to a rose garden with over 100 rose bushes and had a passion for mowing grass.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 11:30 am at Huntersville ARP Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the gravesite immediately follow the service.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to Huntersville ARP Church Cemetery Fund or Independence Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
