CHARLOTTE - Richard "Dicky" Coleman Short, Jr., 58, of Charlotte passed away on Tuesday evening, July 8, at Lake Norman. Born June 13, 1956, son of Richard Short, Sr. and the late JoAnn Chandler Short Cloer. He was a retired glass fabricator with Affordable Glass and lifelong fisherman, though the fish may say otherwise! He will be remembered as a strong, smiling, loving, blue-eyed, curly-headed lover of life, who was happiest with his family, especially near the water or in a boat with a fishing pole. Dicky spent the last year in a courageous battle with cancer, never complaining and always remaining a loving husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and friend. In his earlier years, he played football and baseball at Olympic High School. After high school, he continued to excel at sports and went on to play semi-pro football for the Charlotte Outlaws and semi-pro baseball for the Charlotte All-Stars. He also enjoyed golfing, biking, boating, fishing, and anything involving fresh air. He is survived by his longtime love Sandy; his father and step-mother Dick and Florence Short; his children Lindsay and Rob Voegele, Holly Hill, Robin Hill, Samantha Mosley and his grandson Julian; his siblings (and their families): sister Sheila and husband Dan Oates (April, Ken, Storm, Blue, and Haven Monroe) of Mooresville, brother Joe and wife Cheryl Short (JoAnna and Steven Rothenberg, Josh Short, Jesse Riddle, Brooke Riddle) formerly of Charlotte and now living at North Myrtle Beach, brother Robert Short (Austin) of Denver NC, and brother Moses and wife Wendy Cloer (Julia, Jordan, and Brittany) of Daytona Beach FL; his best friend Dennis Ransom; and his fishing buddies Blue Monroe, OT Phillips, Bob Danbeck, and Mike Sakowicz. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, July 12, at Christ Community Church, 16301 Old Statesville Rd. Huntersville, 28078, beginning with a visitation at noon, then a memorial service at 1:00pm. A gathering of friends and family will take place at his sister's house in Mooresville following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St. Davidson, NC 28036 whose free clinic gave us another year with him, or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region 1420 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204.
