Richard Elbridge Crow Luna, Sr, known to his loved ones as Dick, passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 77 in Huntersville, North Carolina. He was born on January 26, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dick Luna was a generous and fun-loving man, whose family was the most important thing in his life. He not only cherished his immediate family but also welcomed and embraced his children and grandchildren's close friends as part of his own family. His love for his family was reciprocated, and he was adored by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving nature, Dick had a distinguished military career. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he honed his skills as a helicopter pilot. Dick's dedication and service to his country were commendable, and he was decorated for his bravery and commitment.
After his military service, Dick pursued a career as a helicopter pilot, which took him to various corners of the world. He had the opportunity to travel to every continent, working for many remarkable individuals along the way. Twelve years ago, he retired from his adventurous career, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and excellence.
Dick Luna is survived by his children, Chelley and Conrad Hartle, Rick and Cristin Luna, Jamie Luna and Cheryl Tew, his grandchildren Nikki Lucio, Shawn and Lauren Hartle, Natasya and Marcus Hendricks, Dillon Luna, Megan Ellis, Austin Luna, and Logan Luna, his great grandchildren Layla Lucio, Joseph Lucio, and Christian Hartle, his ex-wife, life-long friend and co-grandparent Jennifer Luna, his sister-in-law Joyce Harrington and beloved nieces and nephews, and his grandsons by love, Jason and CJ Gould.
Dick Luna was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma Lee Luna, his brother Chuck Luna, and his sister Linda Jones.
May Dick Luna always be remembered for his remarkable military service, his adventurous career, and, above all, his unwavering love and devotion to his family. May he always have blue skies and tailwinds, forever cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
