DAVIDSON - Richard J. Jaeger Jr., 91, of the Pines in Davidson, was called home by the Lord on June 8, 2015. He was born on July 28, 1923, in New York City, the oldest son of Richard J. Jaeger Sr. and Bertha Jaeger. He was married for more than 71 years to our beloved mother, Janet, who preceded him into the loving arms of Jesus on August 15, 2014. Richard is survived by his three children, Richard Joseph Jaeger III and wife Mary, of Honolulu, HI; Judith Ann Dill and husband Jan E. Dill of Honolulu, HI and Susan Buchanan Kelly and husband Jim W.Kelly of Cornelius, NC, along with 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Growing up on Long Island, NY, he graduated from Hempstead High School and worked for New York Telephone. He responded to the call of his country in the days leading up to WWII, becoming a Navy pilot. Following the war he went back to the Bell System ending up at Bell Laboratories while simultaneously earning a degree in mathematics from Hofstra University. Through his career as a developmental engineer with Bell Laboratories he was awarded several patents in telephone switching systems. Following his retirement, he was elected as a Fellow of IEEE and he and Janet traveled the world together and enjoyed their family. Richard was highly regarded in the telecommunications industry and dearly loved by the family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Phillip, grandson John Edward Dill, and wife Janet. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 20, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
