Reverend Philip Hamilton Gibbs

Reverend Philip Hamilton Gibbs, passed away at the age of 87, on Sunday August 30, 2015 at Autumn Care of Cornelius. Reverend Gibbs was born April 22, 1928 in Weaverville, NC to the late Sam and Grace Gibbs. A graduate of Wofford College and Duke University, he served over 40 years in the ministry. He is survived by his loving family; wife of 63 years, Sue Jenkins Gibbs; sons, Philip H. Gibbs, Jr. (Jane), and Lee Gibbs (Cathy); daughters, Karen G. Harris (Robert), and Christy McQueen (Manh); eight grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius, NC, on Wednesday September 2, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Mary John Dye and Rev. Tony Moreau officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Mt. Zion UMC Columbarium. The family will then receive friends at the church Family Life Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
