Rev. Sylvanus Carter

June 18, 1927 — October 20, 2012

Rev. Sylvanus Carter, 85, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully Saturday, October 20, 2012 with his beloved wife by his side. Born June 18, 1927 in Holland, Kentucky he was a son of the late David Allen Carter and Viola Pippen Carter. Prior to retiring to NC he was a pastor of the Church of the Nazarene for 56 years in Illinois and Indiana and a proud veteran of the US Navy serving his country during WWII. Rev. Carter lived life to the fullest, loved his family and adored his beautiful wife, Betty. A celebration of his life will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Monday October 22, 2012 at Davidson United Methodist Church with Rev. Jody Seymour officiating. The family will receive friends following at the home of their daughter, Rebecca Carter-McCall. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Hill Carter; son, Stephen Carter and wife Donita of Ormond by the Sea, FL; daughters, , Linda Kiefer and husband Steven of Peoria, IL, Rebecca Carter-McCall and husband Mark of Huntersville; grandchildren, Stephanie Stubbs and husband Chris, Marie Morande and husband Craig, Mark Coons and wife Nicole, Eric Coons, David Carter-Filipczak, Blake and Connor McCall; six great grandchildren; one brother and one sister. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Carter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sylvanus Carter Scholarship in Homiletics, Olivet Nazarene University, One University Avenue, Bourbonnais, and Illinois 60914.
