Phyllis Arleen (Frye) Mugford, passed away October 25, 2017, at the age of 87. She was the wife of Russell M Mugford (deceased). She was the daughter of Ralph E Frye and Mary A (Garland) Frye. Phyllis was the fourth of five girls, Mary Louise, Julia Lillian, Barbara, and Patricia, all deceased.
Mrs. Mugford leaves a daughter, Susan (Mugford) Stickels and husband, Wade, of Stanley, NC, a son, David Mugford, of Manchester, NH, and a son Peter Mugford, of Alton Bay, NH. She also leaves grandchildren, David Stickels and wife Rebecca, Dana Stickels and wife Brook, Holly Mugford, Paul Beers, and Scott Beers (deceased). Her great granddaughters are Caroline Stickels and Anna Stickels, two of her greatest joys.
Mrs. Mugford was a bookkeeper for many businesses including Talbots (MA) working with founder Mr. Talbot and Mrs. Talbot, also The Town Offices of Duxbury, MA, a law firm, and several others over the years.
She studied voice in Boston MA and was active in church choirs and was soloist on many occasions.
Inspired by Rev Martin Luther King, Mrs. Mugford became involved in The Fresh Air Fund (NYC), while living in Duxbury MA, bringing inner city children to the country, staying with host families for two weeks in the summer. It was a great experience and she was proud of the town’s response in hosting these wonderful children, many learning to ride a bike and swim.
She lived in Weymouth, Marlboro, and Duxbury, MA. and Chester, NH. In retirement she lived in Alton Bay, NH, Cornelius and Charlotte, NC.
There will be a private service in NH at a later date.
Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC is assisting the family.
