Peter John Burkhardt

Peter John Burkhardt, 83, of Cornelius, NC died on September 1, 2017 at home.

Peter was born in Augst, Switzerland.  He was raised on a farm, where he worked every day after school.  After high school, he completed a 4-year degree in the Electrical field.  In 1957, he married his girlfriend and long-time neighbor, Helen Schneebeli.

In October 1959, Peter and Helen decided to visit family in the US and never left.  In 1960, Peter began working in New Jersey as a Field Engineer, and later as a Service Manager, with Brown Boveri Corporation.  Peter and Helen enjoyed traveling together around the US in the 60’s and 70’s.

They lived in Lawrenceville, NJ for 26 years, where they raised their daughter Jennifer and had a wonderful circle of dear friends. In 1995, they retired to Palm Coast, FL.  Peter loved playing golf and volunteered at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine for several years.  He also enjoyed working in their pristine yard and fixing things around the house.

In 2016, Peter and Helen moved to NC to be closer to their daughter and her family. 

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter, Jennifer Blevins and husband Charles Blevins of Davidson, NC; grandchildren, Colin Blevins & Reid Blevins; sister, Hedy Pfirter of Muttenz, Switzerland; nephew, Fred Pfirter and wife Marlies Pfirter of Diepflingen, Switzerland.

A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends from 5-6pm prior to the service. A reception will be held at the home of Jennifer & Charles Blevins, following the service and all are welcome. 

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Peter’s memory.
