Patricia Ann Westcott
September 30, 1948 — March 16, 2017
Patricia Ann (Hurand) Westcott, age 68, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away in her sleep on March 16th of cancer after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Hurand in 1991 and by her mother, Julia Maxine McKinley in 2008. She is survived by her loving family, husband – Robert Westcott, daughter – Kai-lyn Westcott Schroeder- (John Schroeder), and son – Kyle Westcott, plus 3 grandchildren – JT Schroeder-13, Carson Schroeder-9, and Emma Schroeder-5, and her sister, Paula Rock (William Rock) and two nieces, Sara Rock (Scott Stewart) and Tricia Rock (Brent Carter), and grandnephew Lucian Stewart.
Patricia and Robert were married on January 31, 1970. In September of 1984, we doubled the size of our family when Kai-lyn and Kyle came to us from South Korea. Patti graduated from Morehead State University in Morehead, KY with a BA in Elementary Education which she pursued for the next 40 years with mostly first graders.
The Westcott’s teaching careers took them to several towns starting with the small town of Belmont, OH not far from the Ohio River, then on to Norwalk, OH where she taught at St. Joseph Elementary School for 18 years, and finally on to Ypsilanti, MI teaching in Detroit Public Schools for 20 years retiring in 2010. In April 2011, we moved to Cornelius, NC to be near our grandchildren. There we found the wonderful neighborhood of Bailey’s Glen where Patti was very active organizing activities, parties, and welcoming new neighbors to our neighborhood.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 20th from 6pm to 8pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home at 16901 Old Statesville Rd,, Huntersville, NC 28078 with the funeral being on Tuesday the 21st at 2PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Bailey’s Glen/Hough High School Partnership for a scholarship in Patti’s name.
