Huntersville, NC: Patricia “Patty” Ann Penwell, 74, of Huntersville, NC, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2018. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 7, 1943 to the late Frank Dowell and Florence Dowell.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Penwell; sister Mary Dowell; her brothers-in-law John Penwell and Steve Eller; and her nephew Steven Grossman.
Patty married her high school sweetheart and forever dance partner, Richard Penwell on July 18, 1964. She graduated earlier that same year from the University of Toledo with a Bachelors in Education and would later receive her Master of Science in Education from Nazareth College in 1981 . She spent over 20 years teaching elementary school in both Ohio and New York. She was committed to her students and passed along her passion for reading to all children. Patty had a song or poem for every occasion and was always ready with an encouraging word. Active throughout her years, she loved to get outdoors to hike, ski, walk, bike, run, play golf and tennis. She was known for her kindness, patience, creativity and love of family and friends.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Melissa and her husband Marty Belanger; and daughter Amy Penwell; grandchildren Noah Penwell, and Ayla and Aiden Belanger; sister Linda and her husband Dennis Grossman; nephews Sean and Douglas Grossman; and sister-in-law Jane and her husband Noel Kimmel.
The family is honoring Patty’s wishes not to have a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, The Children's Room in the Penfield Public Library, or to Cameron Community Ministries. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com.
