Mrs. Otley Hockaday Elliott, 82 of the Long Creek Community passed away on May 30, 2011 after a two year battle with Parkinson Disease. She was born June 14, 1928 in Halifax County to Wedford and Mamie Hicks Hockaday. She graduated from Meredith College and East Carolina College with a degree in elementary education. Otley taught at Long Creek and Paw Creek for 33 years. She was nominated as Teacher of the Year during her career with CMS. Otley was a very caring person and helped many people during her life. She loved the outdoors, flowers and crafts. A service to celebrate Otleys life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Revels officiating. The family will hold a private burial at a later date. She is survived by her husband, William Hurley Pete Elliott; brother, Roy Hockaday of Roanoke Rapids; sister-in-law, Mary Hockaday of GA; cousins, Nancy Cross (Sammy) and Donald Elliott (Pauline); several nieces and nephews; her dog Sue and a special friend, Margaret Parker. The family would like to thank her caregivers Jeanette Smith and Carrie Logan for their love and care during her illness and Home Care of Charlotte Referrals.
