Nydia Junco, 68, of Sherrills Ford, NC, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Detroit, MI, on July 2, 1956, to the late Alberto José Machado and Edilia Rodriguez Machado, Nydia lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and friends.
Nydia was known for her many talents and passions, especially her skillful sewing and her delicious Cuban cuisine. She retired from the Lakota Local School District in West Chester, OH, where she made a lasting impact by assisting children with special needs. Her patience, understanding, and kindness left a profound impression on the lives of her students, their families, and her colleagues.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Miguel Antonio Junco, of Sherrills Ford, NC; her children, Melisa Junco Paulik (Christopher) of Liberty Township, OH, Miguel Antonio Junco Jr. of Seattle, WA, and Marco Alberto Junco (Estefania) of Charlotte, NC; and her sister, Mayda White, of Pembroke Pines, FL.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC, 16901 Old Statesville Rd. Huntersville, NC 28078. A reception to celebrate Nydia's life will be held at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home immediately following the service. Please RSVP below for the reception under "Service Schedule".
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to ALS United NC at ALSNC.org, to support efforts to find a cure and to help others affected by this disease.
Nydia’s legacy of love, devotion, and resilience will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
