Ned Hopkins Smith

Mr. Smith, 85, of Mooresville formerly of Huntersville, NC passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Born October 30, 1925 in Mecklenburg County her was the son of the late Bruce Harris Smith and Glenna Hopkins Smith. He graduated from Huntersville High School and entered active duty in the US Navy on March 7, 1944 serving as a ships cook 3rd class and fireman. He was honorably discharged June 9, 1946. His was employed with Jenkins Electric in Charlotte, NC for 17 years followed by 2 years at Burlington Mills in Mooresville, NC. He was then employed for Duke Power Company for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Morton Smith, sons Russell Eugene Smith (Tyanne ) and William Bruce Smith (Rhonda) and 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Maegan, David, and Shelley Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Thomas. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday August 26 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
