Ned McCall peacefully passed away on November 7, 2014 with his family by his side. Ned was born on March 6, 1927, in Catawba County to the late Fred and Fannie McCall. After finishing high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning home, he graduated from Wingate Jr. College and Appalachian State Teachers College. In 1951, he began his 33 year career in public education. At the age of 26, he became one of the youngest appointed principals in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He went on to selflessly lead Hoskins, Long Creek, Paw Creek, Pawtuckett and Oakdale Elementary Schools, where he positively impacted the lives of thousands of students and their families. After retiring from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, he became co-owner of Carolina Door Specialties, a position he held for the next seventeen years. Ned's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and he relished in all of these roles. He was also a sports enthusiast, lettering in basketball in college. In addition, he was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than attending any game involving a family member or friend. Ned was preceded in death by Dorothy, his beloved wife of 46 years, by his son, Ned McCall Jr., by his sisters Elizabeth Callaway and Ada Lee Sigmon, and by his brothers Fred McCall Jr. and Lewis McCall. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson, N.C. with Rev. Jody Seymour officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
