Mrs. Nancy Lindley, 92, of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the Tucker Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
Nancy was born June 22, 1930 in Salisbury, NC, to the late W. Ben and Ada Shue Adams. At an early age her family relocated to Charlotte, and she graduated from Derita High School in 1948. On October 16, 1949, Nancy married William Malcolm “Pete” Lindley at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Together they had two sons, and were married until his passing in December of 1993.
Nancy retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years of service. She enjoyed working part-time as a florist, spending time outdoors and with her grandchildren during her retirement years. Nancy was also very involved in her church ministry at Prosperity Presbyterian Church where she spent many years as an adult-class Sunday School teacher and treasurer for the church. An athlete herself in her younger years, she loved watching North Carolina Tar Heel basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. Along with her friend Betty Wallace, Nancy traveled across the United States on Christian Tour buses visiting 49 states and even some Canadian excursions.
In her later years, Nancy moved to Harrisburg, NC, where she attended Grace Church under the pastorship of her friend Doug Agnew. Her final 4 ½ years were spent living in Bath, NC, on the shores of the Pamlico River with her son Bob, and his wife Kathy.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Thomas Adams, and husband Pete. She is survived by her two sons, Robert Edward Lindley (wife, Kathy) of Bath, NC, and Charles Alan Lindley (wife, Wanda) of Concord, NC, along with her three grandchildren: Kelly Furr (husband, David), Courtney Nilsen (husband, Geoff) and Ben Lindley (wife, Jessica). She also adored her five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 24th from 1:30-3:00 PM at Prosperity Presbyterian Church, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Pastors Bruce Brown of Prosperity Presbyterian Church and Doug Agnew of Grace Church.
