Nancy Maebelle Brannon Fortenberry

November 5, 1916 — February 6, 2015

Nancy Maebelle Brannon Fortenberry, was called from her earthly home to her eternal home with Jesus, on Friday night, February 6, 2015. She was born in Unaka, NC, November 5, 1916 to William and Sarah Bryson Brannon. Maebelle was married to David Lee Fortenberry in 1932 and the union produced eight children; Charlene Garris, Priscilla Sherrill (Rudy), Linda Stephens, Polly Pender Shetler (Paul), Joy Lineberger (Ronnie) , Gail Lineberger (Jackie), Charles Ray Fortenberry (Sherry), David Fortenberry, Jr. (Donna) and 14 loving grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren. There are many nieces and nephews who were greatly loved by "Aunt Maebelle" She might be what some would call a late bloomer. At 52 years of age, after having to depend on someone to drive her everywhere she needed to go, she decided to learn to drive and get her driver's license. In her 60's she became a self taught folk artist. She mainly painted in acrylics and went on to become an award winning folk artist. The greatest love of her life was Jesus and sharing His love with everyone she met. For years until her memory faded she prayed for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by name. She began bible readings, prayer meetings and bible studies in each assisted living home in which she lived. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee of 64 years, and precious daughter, Linda Stephens. A special celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday February 10, 2015 at Westport Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday February 9, 2015 at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Special thanks to the fine staff of Olde Knox Commons. Their loving care of our mother will always be remembered, along with the support of Hospice of Charlotte. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
