Myrtle Victoria Chastain

Myrtle Victoria Chastain of Denver, NC went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2022, at the age of 90.  She was born in Alexis, NC on May 28, 1932, to the late A.P and Mattie McGinnis.  She was a longtime member of Charlotte First Wesleyan Church until its closing.  Later becoming a member of the Gilead Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. She loved her church family.  

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was married to the love of her life, Walter Frank Chastain Jr. for 67 years. Myrtle worked as a beautician and later in the school cafeteria where her daughters attended and later her most loved role as a homemaker. She had a passion for collecting beautiful dishes and wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop at a Goodwill or yard sale.  She loved purses and shoes, while carrying that passion on to her daughters. She loved cooking for her family and always wanted to make sure no one left her house hungry.  When asked for a recipe she could never provide measurements and always seemed to “leave out” one ingredient. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and always enjoyed a sweet lemon or coconut treat. The Young and the Restless was her favorite daytime show especially Victor Newman and continued to watch reruns of her favorite nighttime show, The late show with David Letterman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Johnsie Merritt, Sara Puckett, and Edna Duckworth, nephew, Larry Kiser.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Frank Chastain Jr.; daughters, Penny Johnson, Denver NC; Terry Shoemake(Gary), Southport, NC; Vicky Chastain(Jimmy Melton),Belmont, NC;  Frany Hardy, N. Myrtle Beach, SC; Wendy Wise(David), Cornelius, NC; Sandy Danner(Ben), Southport, NC. 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 11:00 am at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC.  The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service from 10-11:00am. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery 4601 Freedom Dr, Charlotte, NC.
