Mitchell Steven Rosenquist

Mitch Rosenquist, 49, of Mooresville, NC, passed away September 29, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center, from complications accompanying seizures. Mitch is survived by his mother, Carole Hughes, of Charlotte; sister Julie Robson (Tom) of Rochester, NY; brother Kerry (Wanda) of Grand Forks, ND; sister Valerie Rosenquist of Huntersville, NC; brother Jeff (Mary) of Clayton, NC; niece Catriona Robson Guthrie(Brian); nephews Brian Robson (Brandy) and Patrick Rosenquist (Jenna); and Uncle Archie Rosenquist . He is also survived by his second family, Chris and Mary Anne Johnson of Crown Point, NY; Kate and Andy Vinciquerra of Cleveland, OH; Jamie, Anita, Christopher, and Jack Johnson of Crown Point, NY; and Betsy Johnson and Sean DeLorme of Whitehall, NY. He was predeceased by his father, Verland Rosenquist; brother, Scott Rosenquist; brother-in-law, Robert Mick; and nephew, Nathan Rosenquist. He was married to the former Laura Carpenter of Plattsburgh, NY. A graduate of SUNY-Plattsburgh, Mitch spent several years as an investigative reporter for the Plattsburgh Press-Republican. Following his recovery from a brain aneurysm and subsequent stroke in 1996, Mitch reported for The North Countryman and the Danville Register and Bee, before becoming fully disabled. That disability did not prevent Mitch from enjoying life to the fullest: He was full of joy and optimism, and used his trademark "Fanriffic!" to describe himself and most of the activities of his days. He spent many years as a "big brother" in Danville, earning Volunteer of the Year, and later volunteered with the Our Towns Habitat for Humanity in Davidson, NC. In 2007 he moved into his own Habitat house that he had helped build. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and the outdoors as well as constructioneven building a massive tree house in his yard in Mooresville. A celebration of his life will occur at a later date at Parch Pond in Moriah, NY, one of Mitch's favorite places to camp.
