Michelena "Lena" Marie Menconi

Lena Menconi (nee Guaspari), of Hollywood, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina passed away May 2, 2018.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lido Menconi, who left our Earth in 1980.  They married in Los Angeles, California in 1945.  Lena left her hometown of Rome, New York with a train ticket and a twenty-dollar bill heading to Los Angeles to marry Lido.  Prior to his passing, they had a true love story. She was also preceded by her parents, four older sisters, a stillborn older brother and Christian her grandson. 

Lena was employed by Richard’s Department Storein North Miami Beach then later by Biscayne Federal Savings and Loan Association in Hollywood.

She is survived by her two sons Robert (Monica) and Paul (Maria).  Her five grand children always put a sparkle in her eyes: Megan (Joel), Christina (Christian), Nicole (Gregg), Jackie (Tanner) and the late Christian.  Adding to that sparkle were her great-grand children: Ava, Evelyn, Leo, Rosalie and soon to come Noah.

The family of Lena wishes to thank the staffs of Carolinas Healthcare System University Hospital, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County (North Carolina) as well as the Memorial Healthcare System (Florida) for their care and guidance with Lena’s health.  Their love, compassion and kindness will not be forgotten. 

Visitation in North Carolina will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 5:00 – 6:00pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with a service to follow at 6:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home. 

In Florida, visitation will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Davie, Florida followed by Mass at St. David Catholic Church, Davie, Florida at 11:00am.  Interment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery South, Davie, Florida.

She graced everyone for nearly an entire century and will be greatly missed.  If you would like to make a donation in her memory, the family would ask you to consider Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society.
