Meryl Miller Patterson

August 13, 1932 — January 18, 2015

Mrs. Meryl Miller Patterson, 82, of Charlotte, NC died Sunday January 18, 2015 at her residence. Born August 13, 1932 in Hiddenite, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Blake Miller and Pernie Payne Miller. A celebration of her life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 24, 2015 at Davidson United Methodist Church with Dr. Jody Seymour officiating. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, C. Russell Patterson and wife, Julie A. Pruitt, PhD of Charlotte; daughter, Cheri T. Patterson of Cornelius; very special grandson, Dillon Blake Jones of Cornelius and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, C.R. "Pat" Patterson; sister, Rowena Miller Steele and brother, Howard Cleve Miller. She was beautiful, and people noticed that, even to the very end of her life. She was gracious, elegant, unassuming and polite, and people noticed that even more. Her Children and Grandson, learned to say "Yes, Ma'am", and anything that could be misconstrued as misbehaving in church (or in public in general) was not allowed. She was a 97 pound ball of energy who never stopped moving; she could out walk people half her age and often did. She was very, very shy, but once she started talking, she could talk your ear off, which was great, because she was bright and funny! Her family and friends knew her to be an astonishingly talented and generous southern cook. When her children were in college, her house was full of hungry college students and many times she cooked three meals a day and did their laundry, too! Her nieces and nephews viewed Thanksgiving dinner at Aunt Meryl's to be one of their favorite days of the year and rarely missed an opportunity to be there. She loved dogs, chocolate, jewelry, the color blue, the Outer Banks, flowers, snow, and UNC basketball. Her dogs were ever-present and they were a huge part of the family; she gave them all fantastic lives and spoiled them rotten. Most of all, she loved her family: her husband, her children, her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and especially her "one and only" grandson, Blake. She, and the sound of jingling bracelets, will be missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203 or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huntersville, NC is assisting the family. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com
