Maxine Vernette Kelly

February 2, 1928 — October 5, 2018

Maxine Vernette Kelly, 90, passed away peacefully on October 5 at the Havens Assisted Living facility in Charlotte, NC.  Born in Penn Yan, NY on February 2, 1928 and adopted as a young girl by Howard and Francis Briggs, she lived in Rochester, NY.  She met her future husband, Kenton Kelly, while he was attending Rochester Business Institute.  They later married in his hometown of Alexandria Bay, NY in July 1949 and moved to Hornell, NY soon after.  Together they raised six boys in Hornell where they resided prior to retiring to Spring Hill, FL.  She was predeceased by her husband in May 1998, when she then moved to Charlotte, NC to live near her son Marty.

She is survived by six sons Gary (Carla) of Franklin, TN; Marty (Marlene) of Concord, NC; Kevin (Melissa) of Virginia Beach, VA; Neil of Hornell, NY; Raymond (Tracey) of O’fallon,IL, and Doug (Jane) of Rochester, NY.  She had 16 grandchildren: Adam, Sarah, David, Tim, Melissa, Kyle, Tyler, Olivia, Michael, Christopher, Steven, Rachael, Teagan, Aidan, Shawna and Alayna.  She also had 7 great- grandchildren: Arin, Elise, Leighton, Alexa, Ryan, Christian, and Easton.

Maxine was very talented in various arts and crafts.  She was especially adept at sewing, which she shared with others over the years. She was also an avid gardener no matter where she lived.  Over the years she completed many scrapbooks for her extended family sharing the family history. 

Arrangements are being handled by Raymond-Kepner Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Veterans National Cemetery in Florida at a later date.
