Mary Catherine Long Schroeder

Mary Long Schroeder (Kay), 86, of Cornelius, NC died on August 20, 2012 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Morgan County, Kentucky to the late Grover Kelley and Edna Day Long. In August 1945, Kay met Milton Schroeder, an Army Air Force officer assigned to Wright Field near Dayton, OH and they were married December 15, 1945. They had three sons: Terry, Stephen, and Phillip. Kay was a faithful and loving wife, devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. From 1960 to 1971, Kay worked as a nurse and from 1971 to 1988 she worked with Milt's business, M.C. Schroeder Company in Charlotte, NC. From 1986 to 1998, Kay belonged to Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC where she was a member of the Joy Sunday Class and the Senior Adult Choir. After moving to the Lake Norman area in 1999, she joined Davidson United Methodist Church were she was a member of the Founders Circle of the United Methodist women, Primetimers Club, Cuddle Quilt group and Prayer Shawl group. Survivors include three sons and their wives: Terry (Paulette), Stephen (Marjorie) and Philip (Deborah), seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one sister Geraldine O'Loughlin and husband Martin of Dayton, OH. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Milt on June 12, 2012. Services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Davidson United Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will host a reception for attendees. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 South Main St., Davidson, NC 28036.
