Mary Florence "Skip" Shelley Puckett - Charlotte, NC Mary Florence "Skip" Shelley Puckett, age 91, of Charlotte, widow of Herbert L Puckett Jr., died Sunday October 5th, 2014, at The Haven at Carolinas Place. Mrs. Puckett was born August 5, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert L. Puckett, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Starr Williams and Kathleen Johnson Shelley. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Florence Puckett Bleynat and husband Pete of Charlotte, NC and a son Herbert L. Puckett III and wife Ann of Georgetown, SC. "Memaw", as she was affectionately called, is also survived by six grandchildren: Army Command Sergeant Major Herbert (Bert) L. Puckett IV (Ret.) and wife Chris of Bunn Level, NC; former Army Captain Bryan Puckett and wife Amy of Seattle, WA.; Andy Fortenbery of Charlotte, NC; Air Force Lt Colonel John Fortenbery and wife Julie of O'Fallon, IL; Kristina Bleynat Shableski and husband David of Seven Devils, NC; the late Betsy Puckett Hooker and seven great grandchildren; Max Puckett, Hunter Puckett, Connor Fortenbery, Ella Fortenbery, Addison Fortenbery, Beckham Fortenbery, Jake Shableski. She attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Huntersville, until late in life. Skip graduated from Central High in Charlotte. As a working young mother after WWII, she was active with her son and daughter being a Den mother, substituting as an organist at church, working with son and daughter on musical pursuits and enjoying archery, camping and travel with her family. In the mid 1950's she was state President if the PTA and a member of the Alexanderiana Chapter of the DAR for over 72 Years. Skip loved talking on the phone and spent 10 years with Ford Motor Company locating cars for customers prior to the advent of computerized systems. Later in life she was a volunteer at the Presbyterian Hospital for 15 years amassing over 16,000 hours of volunteer service. She worked with her late husband restoring airplanes, became a pilot at age 50, and was an active member of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) promoting the preservation of WWII aircraft. She traveled frequently in her elder years visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Key West, Yellowstone and New England with various tour groups. She definitely believed in living life to the very fullest. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with internment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
