Mary Patricia Mau

Mary Mau, 82, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away on January 2, 2024.  Mary was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex, England to the late John and Margaret Duffy.  Her family emigrated to Chicago, Illinois at the end of World War II, where she pursued a nursing degree, met and married her husband of more than 35 years, Dick Mau, and raised three children.  

Over the years, their shared love for travel, hiking and camping took the young family to National Parks throughout the United States and Canada in a Volkswagen camper van.  They fell in love with and ultimately moved to Siesta Key, Sarasota, Florida, where they resided for nearly 40 years.  After the loss of her husband in 1995, Mary continued to travel by Westfalia camper van throughout the country on her own, making friends wherever she went and becoming an avid geocacher. She leaves behind an extraordinary and diverse group of friends in Sarasota, Florida, Tucson, Arizona and Huntersville, North Carolina. 

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Mau, and her daughter Theresa Mau Safko (Mike).  She is survived by her daughter Nancy Mau (Ken Kondritzer), her son Richard Mau (Tanya), grandchildren Cooper Mau, Riley Mau and John Marshall, brother Michael Duffy (Dorothy), sister Ann Duffy, and cousins, nieces and nephews both here and in the UK.  

In lieu of a funeral service, the family will honor her wishes with a private ceremony in the mountains of North Carolina, in one of her favorite locales.
