Mary Sewell Helvey

Mary Sewell Helvey, 95, of Davidson, NC died peacefully on November 7, 2013. Born in Keystone, West Virginia, Sewell graduated from Concord College and taught in McDowell County, West Virginia schools. A subsequent degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill led to work in academic libraries at both Concord College and at Davidson College. Sewell had been a resident of the Pines at Davidson for twenty-five years. Preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Buchanan Helvey and Kenerly Frazier Helvey, Sewell is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Helvey Lyon; a nephew, Scott Lyon and his wife Lisa Lyon; and a niece, Beth Lyon-Suhring and her husband Steve Suhring. She is also survived by great-nephews Andy and Zachary Lyon and William Suhring and by a great-niece Anna Suhring. A memorial service will be held in the Living Room at the Pines at Davidson, 400 Avinger Lane on Sunday, November 10 from 2:00-3:00 p.m..
