Marvin Jack Marohn, 88, of Mooresville died peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Jack, as he was called, was born on January 3, 1924, in South Bend, IN to Fred and Ethel Marohn. He was raised in Kankakee, IL where he met Marion Wells. They married and enjoyed life together for 40 years. He attended the University of Illinois until World War II took him to Europe where he served with L Company, 325 Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge as a mortar team squad leader. The war took his only sibling, twin brother Calvin James, but Jack's service inspired his grandson, Matthew Marohn, to serve in the 82nd in Iraq. Jack graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948, earning a degree in accounting. He worked briefly for A.O. Smith until joining growing TV pioneer RCA, working in their Service Company until retiring in 1984. Jack's work brought him and his family to many places, but his favorite was Southern California where he enjoyed a too brief retirement with Marion who died in 1985. He continued to live in Carlsbad, CA by himself, but traveled extensively, especially to Las Vegas, and family visits to Massachusetts and North Carolina. Jack moved to Mooresville in 2005 to be near daughter, Carol, and son-in-law, Alex, of Cornelius. Over the past 7 years Jack delighted in the beauty of the Carolina blue skies. But what he enjoyed the most were Sunday afternoon home cooked meals after a lively round of pinochle and margaritas. He will be missed by all he touched over the past 9 months. The family wants to thank all from Hospice of Catawba Valley, Synergy HomeCare, and Churchill Assisted Living who provided support and comfort while Jack was in their care during this time. Along with his parents Jack is preceded in death by his wife, brother and grandson, Daniel Marohn. He is survived by his daughter Carol Moyer and son-in-law Alex of Cornelius, NC, sons; Steven Marohn and wife Gena of Oxford, MA, Michael Marohn and wife Patricia of Mansfield, MA, grandsons; Matthew and Joshua Marohn, granddaughters; Leah Coughlin, Corene, Elisabeth, Christina and Sarah Marohn, great grandchildren; Zachary Cahill, Jacob Speroni and Yarrow Marohn.
