Servant of God, devoted mother, and caregiver

 

Marjorie Berbyck Williams, 78 years of age, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina.  She was known to her siblings as Hyacinth.

Marjorie was born to the late Charles Berbyck and Elma France, Dec 26, 1940 in Georgetown, Guyana, South America.  She received a Nursing Degree from Guys Hospital School of Nursing in London, England. She later migrated to Albany, New York in 1971, where she held the position of Charge Nurse at Eden Park Nursing Home. Marjorie found her passion after working for several years at Parsons Child and Family Center, opening her home as a foster parent to over 33 children.

Marjorie was a loyal servant of God spreading the Gospel to whomever would listen.  She was a deaconess at multiple churches local to wherever she called home; New York, Florida, and Arizona.   Marjorie moved to Huntersville, North Carolina in 2016, and in 2018 she began attending Grace Covenant Church and quickly started serving in the toddlers nursery.   She lived and traveled to many places across the world; Africa, Canada, Europe, impacting many lives along the way.  Marjorie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.  Marjorie knew no strangers as everyone she encountered was considered a friend.  She loved food from all ethnicities, Gospel music, dancing, socializing, and shopping.  Her vibrant smile and demeanor illuminated any room she entered.

Marjorie is survived by two sisters: Cheryl (Alvin) Adams of Ajax, Ontario (CAN) and Daphne (Randy) Maison of Port St. Lucie, Florida; ten children: Margaret Beverly Ann Torrington, Lynette Torrington, Maxwell Williams, Maxine Williams - Lockridge, Tiffany “Shaddy” Williams, Kir Williams, Ronald Williams, Elaine Thornton, Jonathan Williams, Cyasia Williams, in addition to 32 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie is preceded in death by Charles Berbyck (father), Charles Berbyck Jr. (brother), William France (step-father), Elma France (mother), and Simone Berbyck (sister).

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Road, Cornelius, NC 28031. Immediately following the service a repass will be held at the church for family and friends.
